PALO ALTO, Calif. – Big data analytics and solutions provider Sysorex (NASDAQ: SYRX) today announced it has secured a new IT infrastructure development engagement with Hilo, Hawaii-based Gemini Observatory, which operates two of the largest and most advanced telescopes in the world. Under the terms of the engagement, Sysorex will develop and deploy a new advanced systems architecture that will provide high availability, security and compliance for the critical computer systems currently under development by Gemini.

“We are pleased that Gemini Observatory chose Sysorex to develop and deploy the next generation computer systems that will support some of the scientific community’s most exciting deep space research and discovery,” said Sysorex CEO Nadir Ali. “We believe it is a testament to the skills of everyone on our team that such a prestigious scientific organization would select us to design and implement this project,” he said.

The Gemini Observatory operates two 8.19-meter (26.9 ft) telescopes located in Hawaii and Chile. Together the Gemini twins offer almost complete coverage of the northern and southern skies and are among the most advanced optical/infrared telescopes available to astronomers. The Gemini telescopes are operated by a consortium consisting of the United States, Canada, Chile, Brazil, Argentina, and Australia and managed by the Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy (AURA).

Sysorex expects to complete the project in the first quarter of 2016.
